Domingo German voluntarily entered inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse after an incident that occurred earlier this week, and according to Lindsey Adler of the Wall Street Journal, that incident involved inflicting damage in the Yankees facility and an altercation with manager Aaron Boone.
Per Adler, German “grew belligerent” in the Yankees clubhouse on Tuesday, flipping over a couch and smashing a television, and had “confrontations” with Boone. From there, teammates reportedly kept German in a team sauna room so he could sweat out the alcohol and sober up, then was placed in a team nap room to sleep it off while in the presence of team security.
Afterwards, German agreed to enter treatment, and Brian Cashman told reporters on Wednesday that the righty will not pitch again for the Yankees this season.
German’s season ended prematurely in 2019 as well, when he was suspended 81 games for an alleged domestic violence incident, though he is not under investigation for domestic violence in this instance.
Asked about the reports after Thursday’s win over the Astros, Boone declined to comment about anything related to the incidents leading up to German entering treatment.
