With Aaron Judge not returning to the Yankees any time soon, other veteran bats need to step up in his absence.
Evan has zero belief that DJ LeMahieu will be one of those bats to pick up the slack, as his batting average has dipped all the way down to .221, and his OPS to a lowly .650 amid his prolonged slump.
“One guy I don’t believe in is DJ LeMahieu,” Evan said. “How many years in a row do we have to see this guy not be The Machine before we realize he ain’t The Machine anymore?
“I think DJ LeMahieu is done. It all started with a toe injury.”
LeMahieu signed a six-year contract in 2021 after two MVP-caliber seasons in the Bronx, but a sports hernia ended his 2021 campaign before a toe issue derailed his 2022 season. LeMahieu, set to turn 35 next week, hasn’t been the same since, and Evan doesn’t think he ever will be.
