UPDATE: Sanchez continued his hot start with the Padres on Monday night, blasting his third home run already with San Diego in the second inning against the Cubs.
Gary Sanchez wasted little time making an immediate impact for his new team.
The former Yankees and Mets catcher has homered twice in as many games after lacing a home run in Thursday’s game against the Marlins in Miami, already taking the long ball lead for home runs by a San Diego catcher this season.
For Sanchez, the two home runs have come in just nine at-bats since being called up by the Padres.
Sanchez took No. 99 with his new team, the first player in franchise history to wear the number, the number of his former teammate and fellow Baby Bomber Aaron Judge, a nod back to his days with the Yankees when he and Judge were the two offensive leaders of the 2017 club that surprisingly came within one game of a pennant.
