Yankees Notes: Gio Urshela to have MRI on hand, Gleyber Torres expected back Friday

The Yankees are on the verge of getting a starting infielder back, but are now hoping they aren’t losing another in the process.

Gio Ursela injured his hand in Tuesday night’s loss to the Angels, and is out of Wednesday night’s lineup, just days before shortstop Gleyber Torres is expected to make his return to the lineup.

“Gio actually kind of hurt his hand last night on that play, the throw down to second, then throwing home and falling down on the wrist,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s pretty sore, so we’ll hold him out today and see what we have on the off day and hopefully be in position to be back in there Friday”

Urshela will undergo testing on the hand. He is just a week removed from coming back from a nearly month-long stay on the IL with a hamstring injury.

“I think he is gonna get a test [Thursday] to make sure what’s going on in there, so he’ll probably have an MRI on the off day,” Boone said.

As for Torres, who has been out since Aug. 8 with a sprained, thumb, he will play nine innings at Triple-A Scranton on Thursday, since Wednesday’s RailRiders game was rained out, and is expected to be activated Friday.
