Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been getting his reps in the outfield as he prepares for a utility role in 2023, and he told Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network that so far, center field has been a relatively smooth adjustment.

“It’s a big change of perspective, slowing it down out there,” Kiner-Falefa said. “Center field is not too bad. Left field’s gonna be more of a slicing from lefties and those cutter, line drives from righties. I think playing shortstop and being on the side of the field is gonna help me out a bit. Center field isn’t too bad, but left field, there may be some challenges.

“Just getting more into a utility role, learning how to move around again. I have a lot of experience moving around back in Texas. I’m just gonna use that experience here as I transition more into a utility role, and just have fun doing it.”

The Swiss Army Knife will grow even more for Kiner-Falefa before the spring is over, as he told Marakovits he will be working out at catcher in the coming days, dusting off the equipment that he hasn’t used since his days with the Rangers. So, whatever the Yankees ask of him, he is open to trying it.

“I just want to win,” Kiner-Falefa said. “I know there’s a great opportunity to win a World Series here, and I want to be a part of it...winning a World Series here would mean even more.”
