Keith: DJ LeMahieu update is why Yankee fans have 'trust issues' with organization

The Yankees called up top prospect Jasson Dominguez on Monday, and moved DJ LeMahieu to the IL with a right impingement in a corresponding move.

Dominguez’s promotion comes after weeks of fans clamoring for the 21-year-old to be called up, and while Keith McPherson is excited to see The Martian back in the Bronx, he can’t help but wonder why such moves always seem to come weeks, or months, later than they should with the Yankees.

“Why does it always have to come to phantom IL stints or the last few weeks?” Keith said. “Why can’t this just be nipped in the bud right away?

“They die hard on trades and they die hard on contracts.”

LeMahieu has struggled mightily all season, and has battled injuries over the past three seasons. But the Yanks stuck with him, despite apparently dealing with a hip injury, which Aaron Boone told reporters on Monday was an injury that has lingered.

Keith wants to see the Yankees be a lot more aggressive in making roster moves moving forward, especially in an all-in season.

“How am I supposed to take that news?” Keith said. “You mean to tell me you ran DJ LeMahieu out there over and over again at sat Ben Rice on the bench…I had to watch all of these struggling at-bats and struggled in the field, and he had a hip injury lingering? And you just hid that from us? And they wonder why the fans have trust issues with the organization.

“I just wish they’d be more honest and more transparent.”
