Keith hesitant to give up top Yankee prospects when Juan Soto could leave in offseason
Keith still wants to see the Yankees make additions at the trade deadline to help a roster that is in the midst of an extended freefall, but after watching the Bombers post the second-worst record in baseball for over a month, he isn’t sure if this team is worth sacrificing the farm for.
“I don’t want to give up Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones,” Keith said. “I do see a world next year where Juan Soto goes across town for $50 million more and joins a team that is gonna be better next year.
“You’re gonna need to put those young guys in the outfield around Aaron Judge.”
The Yankees need help in the infield, in the bullpen, and likely another starting pitcher for fans to feel good about becoming World Series contenders again. But Keith says there are also question marks in areas of the lineup that feel like sure things. So, if a notable move or two won’t be enough, why give up top prospect capital?
“Ryan MacMahon, is that enough?” Keith said. “In theory, right now, knowing how hard it is to get to the World Series - Juan Soto has a hand issue. Judge has been healthy, but that’s not for certain. We don’t know what Stanton is gonna be when he comes back. We don’t know what Dominguez is gonna be. It’s hard for me to say ‘trade everybody and go all the way in.’”
