Keith has been off the Yankee roller coaster for a while now, but watching how the team tried to solve its Luis Severino problem was still a source of anger when he opened Wednesday night’s show.
“That’s a wrap. That’s all she wrote,” Keith said after the Yanks dropped another series to the lowly White Sox. “I’m starting to hate watching the Yankees. Hate is a strong word, but this is making my skin crawl.”
Severino was brought in after Ian Hamilton served as the opener, with New York trying to avoid the first inning for Severino, a frame that has been consistently disastrous for him this season. Turns out, it doesn’t matter when Severino comes in, as he was knocked around for four runs in two innings of work, bringing his season ERA to 8.06.
“Here’s what you do: Don’t put Severino on the mound,” Keith said. “Don’t let him throw a pitch. You have a day off tomorrow. Empty the bullpen. Stupid is as stupid does. I’m allergic to this stupidity…I had this stupid idea that Ian Hamilton would get to go as long as he could until he got into trouble…Ian Hamilton goes out there and has a 10-pitch inning, and you’re like, ‘Keep him in.’ but since they have a script and analytic nerds, they say Severino will be good as long as he doesn’t pitch in the first inning.
“Does this look like an organization trying to make a push for the postseason and go on a run, or does this look like an organization that thinks they’re the smartest people in the room?”
