Keith says Jasson Dominguez is for real: 'The pinstripes aren't heavy for that guy'

The legend of Jasson Dominguez continued on Wednesday night, with the Yankee phenom blasting his first Yankee Stadium home run as part of a three-hit night.

Dominguez’s start to his MLB career can’t be going much better than it has so far, and Keith is buying in to the 20-year-old’s future with the Bombers, regardless of the sample size.

“I like this alien kid a lot,” Keith said. “It seems like he fits and he belongs. He’s only 20 years old, but the pinstripes aren’t heavy for that guy. I know, these games don’t mean anything…but I think that’s just his demeanor. That calm that he has, it’s something they’ve talked about, it’s not something that’s gonna change when the stakes get higher. He’s only gonna get better and more comfortable.

“This is a switch-hitting martian…he’s gonna hit home runs in Yankee Stadium that he doesn’t think are home runs, and they’re gonna go.”

The Yankees are filled with cautionary tales in recent years of promising prospects that come out to hot starts before teetering off in future years (Greg Bird, Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez), but Keith believes Dominguez can break that trend, and should already be considered the team’s center fielder moving forward.

“He should be the starting center fielder on Opening Day,” Keith said. “I don’t want to hear anything in spring training about bringing in some journeyman that’s gonna battle for the job. We saw this kid in spring training this year, and he was turning heads…he’s here now, and I expect Jasson Dominguez to be starting center field for the Yankees in 2024.”
