Keith wants 'Clay Rules' put into effect: 'Can't pitch in one-run games'

Clay Holmes blew another save on Wednesday night, this time blowing it in the seventh inning when he was brought in with a 2-1 lead.

Two singles and a sac fly erased a huge home run by Juan Soto, and fortunately for the Yankees, they went on to win in 11 innings, but Keith still couldn’t believe that Aaron Boone and the Yanks continue to trust Holmes in high-leverage spots.

“There’s Clay rules now, at least for me,” Keith said. “If I’m managing the team, Clay can’t pitch in a one-run games.

“I don’t know what it is, man. I’ve seen this whole Boone era of the Yankees, building guys’ confidence up…how many times did they try to build guys’ confidence up when they didn’t have it?”

Holmes has already lost his ninth-inning job, but Keith says the righty needs to be demoted even further, though he doesn’t have high hopes of his wish being granted.

“They’re not taking him out. They’re convinced that he’s a high-leverage reliever,” Keith said. “These runs are hard to come by…and you just give that lead right back?”
