With Gerrit Cole seemingly on the shelf for at least 1-2 months, Keith says the Yankees need to pivot and add a big arm.
He wants that pivot to result in a reunion with Jordan Montgomery.
“Let bygones be bygones. Talk it out,” Keith said. “Come meet in the middle. Figure out a price with Scott Boras, and bring Monty home. That would be a great story. This is how scripts are written…I would love if this adversity turned into Jordan Montgomery saying ‘OK, I will come back and help the Yankees.’ Overpay him if you have to.”
Even if it isn’t Montgomery, Keith says the Yankees need to bring in another frontline starter to make up for the absence of Cole.
“The Yankees have to adapt in the interim,” Keith said. “Do not sell me on Luke Weaver, Cody Poteet, Will Warren, Luis Hampton, Chase Hampton, Clayton Beeter, none of those guys. You barely had a solid enough rotation with the guys that you have. You have to go get a front-line starter.
“I need Hal Steinbrenner to step up and say ‘This year is important to me, this is a 15-year drought, bring one of these guys in, I don’t care about the tax, it’s worth it.’”
