With UConn and Quinnipiac’s inclusion in the 16-team NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament, Connecticut fans now have three active major college tournaments to follow.
The men’s hockey bracket was announced Sunday afternoon. UConn (20-12-5) will play Michigan St. (25-8-2) Thursday in Worcester, MA. It’s a 1:30 pm faceoff, televised on ESPN2. The Huskies are coming off a narrow Saturday night loss to Merrimack in the Hockey East championship game. It’s their second straight NCAA appearance.
Quinnipiac (26-9-3), the 2023 national champ, will play in the Sioux Falls (SD) Regional on Thursday against Providence (23-10-2). It’s a 5 pm ET start, streamed on ESPN+. The Bobcats’ Ethan Wyttenbach leads the nation in scoring (24 goals, 34 assists, 58 points).
The Connecticut teams need two wins next weekend to advance to the Frozen Four, scheduled for Las Vegas on Apr. 9 and 11.
UConn men’s basketball (30-5) plays UCLA (24-11) Sunday night (8:45 pm/TNT) in Philadelphia in the NCAA Second Round. The winner will play in the Sweet 16 on Friday at the Eastern Regional in Washington, DC against Michigan St. (27-7). The men’s Final Four is set for Indianapolis on Apr. 4 and 6.
The undefeated UConn (35-0) women play in Storrs Monday night against Syracuse (24-8) in the Second Round. It’s a 6 pm tipoff (ESPN). The winner plays North Carolina (28-7) in the Sweet 16 on Friday in Fort Worth, TX. The women’s Final Four will by played in Phoenix, AZ on Apr. 3 and 5.
