When the Yankees take the field on Opening Day, Marwin Gonzalez will be among those in pinstripes lining up along the first base line.
The utilityman told ESPN’s Marly Rivera that manager Aaron Boone told him he had made the Yankees’ Opening Day roster after a very strong spring training. Heading into Tuesday’s action, Gonzalez was slashing .364/.391/.818 with three home runs in 22 at-bats.
The former Astros and Twins utilityman, who also spent time with the Red Sox last season, is averaging a lowly .660 OPS over his last three seasons, but has extensive experience playing every position on the field aside from center and catcher.
