As Chris McMonigle softens just a bit on the Yankees’ backup plan without Juan Soto, he hopes Max Fried is the first step towards a bigger move that would represent the best possible replacement for Soto.
As Fried arrives, rumors simmer that Kyle Tucker could be there for the taking via trade, and C-Mac wants the All-Star, Gold Glove outfielder in pinstripes. Badly.
“Kyle Tucker has now made Plan B sexy,” C-Mac said. “I wasn’t sure if Plan B could get me aroused, but I gave to admit, Kyle Tucker is actually sexy.”
Tucker’s numbers are certainly sexy, as he is a consistent 30-homer slugger who hit .290 with a .993 OPS through 78 games last season before suffering a shin fracture. An All-Star in each of the past three seasons, Tucker’s lefty swing would be a dream in the Bronx, and his defense along with Aaron Judge would make the outfield a strength, as despite Soto’s offensive greatness, his fielding was always lacking. Tucker also brings quality baserunning to the table, as he swiped 30 bags in his last full season in 2023, when he also led the league with 112 RBI.
“That is a Plan B I didn’t see coming,” C-Mac said. “That’s a Plan B that tapped me on the shoulder, I turned around and went ‘Ohhh, who are you?’ I did not see that Plan B coming.”
