Yankees Notes: Miguel Andujar dealing with hand, wrist soreness

Miguel Andujar isn’t in the Yankee lineup for the second straight day, and Aaron Boone told reporters on Thursday that the left fielder has been dealing with hand and wrist soreness and is awaiting test results.

“Miggy has been dealing with a little bit of a hand issue here as well the last couple days,” Boone said. “His last at-bat the first game here, he had some soreness in his hand and wrist, so we’re seeing what we got there today. He had X-rays and an MRI that we’re waiting to get the results of.”

Brett Gardner, Tim Locastro and Aaron Judge make up the outfield for Thursday’s series finale against the Mariners, but losing Andujar would be a blow for an outfield already without Aaron Hicks and Clint Frazier.

Boone did say that the soreness was in Andujar’s left hand, not the right hand that kept him off the field for the first five weeks of the season, and he was already feeling better after the discomfort came up on Tuesday night.

“He was feeling a lot better [Thursday] and I know he was getting ready to go…take some swings, so we’ll see where we are with that,” Boone said.

Zack Britton has also been feeling better from his hamstring cramping and was scheduled to throw to live hitters before Thursday’s game, and if all goes well, Boone said the lefty reliever could be activated for this weekend’s series against the Astros.

Luis Severino threw a bullpen session on Wednesday in Somerset, and could face live batters this weekend, Boone said. Severino will go on another rehab assignment after injuring his groin during his initial rehab stint, though Boone hopes it won’t be as long as his initial assignment.
