Since Dont'a Hightower opted out of the 2020 season and just starting attending the Patriots' offseason workouts last week, he's getting his first look at quarterback Cam Newton.
Speaking following Tuesday's second minicamp session, Hightower was asked about now being teammates with the Auburn product and former NFL MVP.
"I have the utmost respect for Cam," Hightower said. "Obviously, I played him in college and then the accolades he’s received from being in the NFL, I think that says a lot about his character, not just him as a football player. I respect and love Cam as a football player and a person. Just the few days that I’ve been here, definitely a different vibe on that side of the ball. He brings a lot of juice. He brings a lot of emotion. Guys feed off that. It’s good to watch being on the opposite side of the ball."
Newton seems to be in the midst of a quarterback competition with rookie Mac Jones, while Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer are also in the quarterbacks room.
