If there's any footnote to Drake Maye's strong play through the Patriots' six-game win streak, it's the number of times he hits the turf.
Maye has taken 34 sacks this season, making him the second-most sacked quarterback, behind Carolina's Bryce Young. When he faced higher-tier defenses over the last two games, he took a total of 12 sacks.
The rate at which he's getting sacked is clearly unsustainable. Maye didn't point a finger at the big guys up front during his weekly appearance on 'WEEI Afternoons,' but rather, owned the stat for himself.
"It's pretty simple, just getting the ball out - not holding it," he said. "The numbers, stats, don't always tell the case and I think those guys are playing their butts off up front. A lot of them are really on me."
A team's fortune can turn quickly if its quarterback takes a hard hit, as Washington fans saw during Sunday Night Football. Commanders quarterback and draft class peer Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow on a hard hit, and Maye offered his condolences.
"It's just unfortunate for Jayden, what a great player. Every week, he's fun to watch. It's unfortunate that happened to him," he said. "Praying for him."
