The legend that was the on-field product of former tight end Rob Gronkowski will forever live in Patriots history. The 2010 second-round pick finished his illustrious career with 621 receptions, 9,000+ receiving yards, 92 touchdowns, and most importantly - four Super Bowl titles.
We're also very familiar with his crazy, fun, partying lifestyle that he's put on full display. Not only did he love to knock a few back alongside his teammates while parading along on duck boats, but he also fell asleep during his pre-draft visit to Foxborough, making a less-than-ideal impression on head coach Bill Belichick.
Gresh and Fauria: Who will come down on Jack Jones first? The NFL or the Patriots?
But just how truly wild were Gronk's partying days in New England? Former Patriots defender Jake Bequette recently took us behind the scenes of another classic story on “Prime Time with Alex Stein”:
“We all had these key fobs that gave us 24/7 access to the Patriots facility there in Foxborough,” Bequette explained.
“During the offseason, Gronk would go out all night with his boys in Boston, you know stay up ‘til three, four in the morning, whatever it was, and have his crew drop him off at the Patriots facility."
“[Then] he would like stagger into the Patriots locker room, key fob in, and go pass out on the training tables in the Patriots training room.”
Goodnight, Gronk.
"So then like an hour or two later when the trainers would come in to start their workday, they’d come in there and see Gronk just sprawled out on the training table, just fast asleep." Bequette continued. "They would go over there, they wouldn’t wake him up, they would roll up one of his sleeves, and you know stick an IV in his arm and like after a couple hours he would just wake up like Frankenstein, revived, and go out there and just kick ass.”
True story? Probably. Over-exaggerated? Perhaps - but I wouldn't put it past the four-time All-Pro.
Add this story to the never-ending lore of the future Hall of Famer. He did what no one else could... both on and off the field.
