the greg hill show: former patriots safety devin mccourty joins the show
Count former Patriots safety Devin McCourty as someone who's on board with Jerod Mayo, his former teammate, becoming the next head coach in New England.
"I'm excited for him," McCourty told WEEI's The Greg Hill Show on Wednesday morning ahead of Mayo's introductory press conference with the Patriots. "I think, obviously when you come off a season where you have the No. 3 pick, there's a lot of work to be done. But I think he's a guy that's up for the challenge. I think he's been preparing to get an opportunity to be a head coach. As soon as he got back into coaching, I remember talking to him and he was like, 'If I'm gonna do this, I wanna be a head coach, like I wanna reach the top of the top,' so I'm excited."
He continued: "I think the thing he does well, his best attribute is that he's a leader of men, and I think that's what you need in this league. I think when you look around the league, a lot of these newer coaches, no matter if they're offense or defense, their success comes from their team believing in them."
McCourty went on to speak on Bill Belichick's coaching style, his potential next destination, and more on Wednesday's edition of The Greg Hill Show. You can listen to the full interview here.
