Patriots fans likely won’t be forced to watch N’Keal Harry take up space for much longer.
The NFL released fifth-year option numbers for 2019 first-rounders Monday. For a receiver with Harry’s thin resume, the 2023 fifth-year salary stands at $12.425 million.
That’s a hard pass.
Harry, 24, has done nothing but underachieve since the Patriots selected him with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The supposedly physical receiver from Arizona State only played in seven games during his rookie season due to injury, catching 12 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
His performance hasn’t improved with time. Harry has caught just 45 passes over the last two seasons for 493 yards and two scores. Last summer, Harry requested a trade through his agent, and then proceeded to suffer a shoulder injury during training camp.
Harry’s ask wasn’t granted.
With a base salary of $1.8 million and cap hit of $3.2 million, there’s a chance the Patriots could cut Harry this offseason. Trading the little-used wideout would save $1.198 million in cap space.
The Patriots have until May 2 to make a decision on Harry’s status for 2023.
