Stefon Diggs hosts party bringing cold weather essentials and plenty of cheer to local kids

Just in time for wintery temperatures, Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs hosted an event at Gillette Stadium to outfit local families with coats, hats, and gloves – and a night of fun, as well.

The Diggs Deep Foundation invited families from Massachusetts and Rhode Island to the stadium for a ‘Game Day of Giving.’ The foundation, spearheaded by the All-Pro player, treated guests to a catered dinner, a professional DJ, craft activities, and face painting.

Diggs got in on that final activity and chose a Spiderman design, which delighted young Pats fans.

“I’m new to this community,” Diggs said. “I want to feel part of this community and everything they do to support us, and make an impact the best that I can.”

Most crucially, the event provided guests with ‘Diggs Deep Warm-Up Kits:’ bundles of cold weather clothing and other winter essentials donated through local business partnerships. Diggs started his foundation back in Minnesota and was excited to bring the work to Foxboro.

“Football’s like a family. I jumped into that pretty good, and they welcomed me with open arms. So why not do that same thing with the community? I feel like, not only is it my jobs, it’s a service to others. It makes you feel good inside when you can impact the youth and mothers,” he said.

Diggs also shared how thankful he feels for his own recovery from an ACL tear midseason last year. He’s been simply electric for the Patriots: besides his 659 receiving yards, he’s been a sparkplug for the young receiver corps.

The Patriots enter Week 12 with a 9-2 record and the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They won twice last week, despite the tight schedule of travel from Tampa Bay and Thursday Night Football. The wonky week left players with a rare free weekend, but Diggs said he hasn’t gotten to “explore” Boston quite yet, though he will eventually.

“For now, we on a mission,” he said.
