Stefon Diggs pleads 'not guilty' to assault and strangulation charges

Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs pleaded 'not guilty' to strangulation and assault charges in Dedham District Court Friday morning.

Diggs' arraignment, concerning an alleged dispute between him and a private chef in December, lasted mere moments before a judge released him on personal recognizance bail. He is scheduled to return on April 1.

Diggs did not offer comment to media following his appearance, but his attorney, Mitchell Schuster, gave a statement in front of the courthouse steps.

"He is completely innocent of these false allegations that have been alleged against him. We are confident that after the facts and evidence are reviewed in this case, he will be completely exonerated," Schuster said.

Schuster did not clarify whether Diggs is seeking a monetary settlement, and said he has "been representing Mr. Diggs for several years."

"I expect Mr. Diggs to be exonerated. I would be shocked if this case goes to trial," he added.

Diggs' original arraignment date of Jan. 23 was pushed back to Feb. 13 at the request of his legal team. He played in Super Bowl 60, in Santa Clara, on Feb. 8.

Diggs faces felony strangulation or suffocation charges as well as misdemeanor assault and battery. Those charges were filed on Dec. 16, 2025. He was ordered to refrain from contact with the accusing party, including third-party contact.
