The start of training camp is a good time for lists, and one interesting countdown that concluded over the weekend was Mike Florio's ranking of the 10 best coaches in the NFL right now.
Patriots boss Bill Belichick continues to rank highly despite not winning a playoff game in four years, coming in at third on the Pro Football Talk list.
The top spot goes to Andy Reid of the Chiefs, which makes sense given that Kansas City are the defending champs and winners of two of the last four Super Bowls.
What's really interesting is the name sandwiched between Reid and Belichick: Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin. While Tomlin has an impressive streak of 16 straight seasons without a losing record, he has gone six years without winning a playoff game and has missed the postseason in three of the last five years.
The Greg Hill Show crew reacted to Florio's list and Belichick's place on it Monday morning. Listen to the full segment starting at 17:00 in the clip below.
"This list is already dumb," producer Chris Scheim said of Tomlin being ranked second. Scheim said he would have had Belichick second behind Reid, with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan third.
"I like Tomlin, but they haven't made a meaningful playoff run in years," he added. "I understand he has his winning record thing, but that only gets you so far."
"I agree," said Chris Curtis, filling in as host with Greg Hill out. "Mike Tomlin has been great at making the most out of a tough situation, whether it was Duck Hodges, getting to .500 at the end of the year. Last year, a pretty bad team, wasn't awful. But you can't use the argument with Tomlin that he never had the players, because he had a Hall of Fame quarterback [Ben Roethlisberger] for how many years, and won one Super Bowl."
