Boomer & Gio: Should Daniel Jones feel betrayed by Giants?

Daniel Jones has likely played his last snap as a Giant, being bumped down to the third-string quarterback after Brian Daboll confirmed that Tommy DeVito will start coming out of the bye week.

Jones hasn’t played close to good enough this season, starting with his disastrous Week 1 showing against the Vikings in his first game back from ACL surgery, and continuing with a brutal performance against the lowly Panthers in Germany in what will likely be his last game with Big Blue. But Boomer still wonders if Jones feels at all betrayed by how everything was handled.

“This is gonna be a really awkward time for him and the team,” Boomer said. “Say whatever you want about his performance, I’m just giving you the perspective. I’m sure he feels a sense of distrust. He probably feels demeaned in some respect, and Tommy DeVito is living the dream.

“It’s a nightmare scenario for Daniel Jones.”

Gio pushed back strongly on that idea, pointing to the robust contract Jones earned and the six years he was given to prove himself as a capable winning quarterback. But Boomer says players are prideful, and to be relegated to third string after winning a playoff game two years ago likely won’t go over well for a prideful professional athlete.

“He’s gotten hurt, gone through rehab a number of times…tried to do the best he possibly can, which isn’t good enough,” Boomer said. “Sometimes you forget that these guys are actually human.

“Nobody wants to be embarrassed or feel as if they’re the reason why the team is losing…living through it, it’s just not easy.”
