With most of the Giants’ regulars on the bench, Kenny Golladay saw more snaps on Sunday than he had in any other game all season, logging 63 while hauling in a touchdown catch in seven targets.
Golladay has mainly been viewed as a free agent bust for Big Blue after signing his massive four-year contract in March of 2021, but did his season finale performance earn him some more playoff playing time?
“If a guy like Golladay somehow rediscovered how to play football,” Craig said. “That could be a big deal.”
Golladay was a force for the Lions before he signed with the Giants, and the wide receiver position has been one in need of dynamic playmakers for Big Blue. One game hardly tips the scales after spending most of the season in exile, but Craig and Evan aren’t ruling out the possibility that he could have given the coaching staff something to think about.
“Kenny Golladay on Sunday was on the field for 44 snaps,” Evan said. “He had never been on the field for 44 snaps in any game they played this year…he has literally been single digit on the field, or not on the field at all. So the question I have, is did that performance change something?
“Is he gonna be on the field for 10 plays? Twenty plays? Remember, the Giants were taking an approach of ‘Let’s be conservative here, let’s sit our regulars,’ so it created new opportunities.”
Over his previous five games before Sunday’s regular season finale, Golladay didn’t see a single target, and logged a total of 40 snaps. It’s hard to see the Giants changing his season-long trajectory in the most critical game of the season after just one game, but it could be something discussed in the coaches room.
“Did Kenny Golladay do enough with that touchdown catch to change the opportunity?” Evan asked. “I don’t know, but we’re gonna find out on Sunday. But that’s what I’m curious about. Was that enough to change the coaches’ minds on why Kenny Golladay has barely touched the field this season?”
