The Seattle Seahawks announced Wednesday that offensive lineman Chad Wheeler is “no longer with the team and is a free agent” after his arrest and release for a domestic violence incident over the weekend that reportedly left his girlfriend beaten into unconsciousness.
Now, Wheeler has taken to Twitter to say that he is walking away from football to get help, explaining the situation as a “manic episode” in a three-Tweet thread:
Wheeler, 27, went undrafted in 2017 out of USC but signed a three-year deal with the Giants, and spent most of 2018 as the starting right tackle before being cut in 2019. He signed with Seattle’s practice squad in October 2019, and was elevated to the active roster for the Seahawks’ playoff run last season, as well as two games this past season.
