Evan breaks down why Aaron Rodgers is best veteran option for Giants

Evan and Tiki began Wednesday’s show discussing what veteran quarterback options might be the best for the Giants next season, and Evan laid out a detailed argument for why Aaron Rodgers is the best choice given the circumstances.

Evan believes the job description for whoever takes over under center will be to try and win games for Big Blue while whoever the team drafts at No. 3 develops, and if the season gets away from them by November or December, that veteran must step aside to let the rookie get his feet wet for the long-term sake of the franchise. For that reason, Evan doesn’t see Matthew Stafford being a good choice.

“I want to have my cake and eat it too,” Evan said. “I want to have my cake, which is a veteran quarterback that gives me a chance to win...I also want a young quarterback that I’m developing.

“I want the option in Week 8 or 9 to say ‘Hey, it’s not necessarily your fault, but we’re pulling the plug.’ With those quarterbacks I mentioned, Stafford is the least likeliest to join that situation. It is likelier not that, even if you get that good quarterback play, that you’re sitting at 4-6. And I can promise you, at 4-6, every Giants fan is gonna call this station, no matter how well Matthew Stafford is playing, and say ‘I want to see the kid.’”

So, if Stafford doesn’t make sense, who does? Evan mentioned Wilson, but in terms of ability, he believes he takes a back seat to Rodgers, who seems to check the boxes of what Big Blue needs in a veteran quarterback in 2025.

“Tell me if I’m wrong. Don’t you think Rodgers is probably more liked and respected in the room than Russell Wilson is?” Evan said. “So let me get this straight. If we agree he’d probably fit in the locker room better than Russell Wilson, he’s better than Russell Wilson and Derek Carr, of the four veteran quarterbacks that are available, the guy that makes the most sense for the Giants is Aaron Rodgers. Am I wrong?

“Draft a young quarterback, let him sit while also trying to win. I would put Aaron Rodgers number one.”
