The Giants are reportedly expected to make a big splash before the NFL Draft next month.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the belief around the league is that Big Blue is likely to trade up with the Titans to take the No. 1 overall pick and grab the quarterback prospect of their choosing, which Raanan says is believed to be Cam Ward.
Per Raanan, Ward is considered the consensus top QB in the draft, and a tier above Shedeur Sanders, who has been slipping in many recent mock drafts.
The Giants had tried to take a big swing in the veteran aisle this offseason, but Matthew Stafford ultimately agreed to return to the Rams. Other veteran options like Aaron Rodgers are still available, but New York has been looking for its franchise quarterback of the future since Eli Manning, and if the organization believes Ward is the guy, they could sacrifice some assets to move up from No. 3 and secure the Miami product.
There was plenty of buzz surrounding Sanders and the Giants, even before the season ended, as Big Blue was scouting him and talking with him, but Raanan reports that it could have been nothing more than a “smoke screen.”
The Titans are willing to trade out of the top spot, and Joe Schoen told reporters that the Giants are willing to trade up, or even back, in the first round if the right opportunity arises.
