Sterling Shepard’s non-contact injury didn’t look good on Monday night, and head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the worst on Tuesday afternoon.

Daboll told reporters that Shepard suffered a torn ACL, shortly after working his way back from a torn Achilles. Shepard’s season is now over, and his Giants career as the longest-tenured member may be over as well, as the wide receiver is on an expiring contract.

Shepard slowed up after an interception on one of the final plays of the game on Monday, but suddenly grabbed at his knee and fell to the turf. The respected veteran was surrounded by players on both sides before he was carted off the field.

The Giants are now even more shorthanded at receiver, with Kadarius Toney and Wan’Dale Robinson both working their way back from injuries. Daboll said they are “getting closer,” but wouldn’t say whether they would be ready for Week 4.
