The Giants secured the third overall pick in the draft after losing to the Eagles in Sunday’s season finale, but they will be picking behind the Titans and Browns, two teams that likely covet a quarterback.
Big Blue has been waiting to finally get a rookie QB in the room for Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll to draft and develop, but they might not be able to get their hands on Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward if Tennessee and Cleveland take the two with the first two picks.
But Boomer and Gio agree that, should a team like the Browns express interest in taking Sanders, he and his father will emphatically declare that they don’t want to be in Cleveland.
“If Deion is controlling what’s going on, there is no way he lets Shedeur Sanders go to the Cleveland Browns. You can’t,” Gio said. “If I were Shedeur Sanders, I would rather go to the Jets. That’s saying something.
“They may want to do it, but Deion is not gonna let that happen.”
It wouldn’t be the first time a top quarterback made it clear that he didn’t want to be drafted by a certain team, as the Giants benefited from that and ended up with Eli Manning. Boomer believes it could happen again.
“Right now, I would say he’s more explosive, meaning the running aspect of his game is significant,” Boomer said of Ward over Sanders. “He’s a terrific athlete. I don’t know how polished he is either. A lot of these guys that come out, you just never know. I didn’t know Bo Nix was going to be this successful, but I knew he was going to the right coach. So these guys have got to get to the right spot with the right coaches.
“If you ask me, Tennessee and Cleveland…if I were Shedeur Sanders and Deion, I would not want to go there.”
