Has time and Week 18's results changed Gio’s mind that the Giants are going to march into Minnesota and beat the Vikings on Super Wild Card Weekend?
Short answer? Nope.
“This is going to be another thing that I won’t be able to get away from, and it might be worse than all the other times, because I sat here and said the Giants were going to be horrible and win four games this year,” Gio said Monday. “And those guys, who I have trashed incessantly, Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, are going to go to Minnesota and beat my team. It’s just going to happen, you just have to accept it!”
Boomer tried to quell Gio’s fear from a perspective of having played 14 years in the league knowing the better team usually wins, but Gregg wasn’t hearing it, because he has 40 years of Vikings fandom (and failure) to reflect on.
“I know you tried to give me that, but as a Vikings fan my whole life, let me tell you something: This is the way it’s going to go,” Gio exhorted. “TRUST ME! This is the way it’s going to go.”
Boomer tried one more time to extol the Skol, but Gio wasn’t having the virtuosity.

“They won 13 games, many of them memorable and 11 of them by one score, and that has to go down as one of the most exciting seasons in their history,” Boomer said.
“Yeah, and that’s all it’s going to amount to,” Gio shot back. “It’s like we talked about with the Mets this year: all those exciting moments and 101 wins…it doesn’t mean anything when you get your face lit on fire in Atlanta, and then lose at home to the San Diego Padres.”
Sure, there will be some things Gio remembers about this dream season, but those defining moments will all be for naught if the Vikes are not still alive next Monday.
“There will be a couple wins in the regular season I won’t forget, like the Indy comeback and the Buffalo game, but this season will be defined by losing to the New York Giants on Wild Card Weekend,” Gio said. “I will be reminded of that for the rest of my life, just like the 2000 NFC Championship Game, 41-0.”
That, unfortunately, is a loss Gio relives pretty much every day.
“Brian Rascona was reminding me of it Friday, and Tiki Barber, when I see him in the hallway, he played in that game, and I can’t get away from it,” Gio lamented.
Only one thing is for sure: either Gio is going to be a self-deprecating loser or, potentially, an upset winner come next Monday.
