Gio says all eyes will be on the Giants during this year’s draft, as the question will be whether Joe Schoen and company decide to take a quarterback with their top-10 pick to signify the next chapter for the franchise.
Whatever they do, Boomer and Gio agree that whoever is playing quarterback will need a lot more playmakers around him than what New York has had in recent years.
“The Giants need playmakers. My God, do they need playmakers,” Gio said. “Darren Waller, he’s gonna get hurt, you can’t count on him…you need some wide receivers, for God’s sake. Legitimate receivers.”
The Giants have tried to accomplish that in recent years, with acquisitions like Waller and Kenny Golladay, and they haven’t panned out. Gio says they have to get that right, but first, the big story will be how the team handles their quarterback position in the draft.
“What the Giants do at six, what is available at six…that will be the most fascinating storyline of the New York offseason,” Gio said.
