Titans president of football operations Chad Brinker spoke with reporters on Wednesday, and it may have altered the course of Giants history.
As Big Blue sits at third overall in the draft and sweats out whether Tennessee and the Browns will take the top two quarterbacks available, Brinker may have hinted that the Titans won’t take Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders with the No. 1 overall pick.
Brinker told reporters that the team “won’t pass on a generational talent with the first pick,” and Gio believes the only generational talent in the upcoming draft is not at quarterback.
“The odds on who is going to be the No. 1 overall pick changed so dramatically yesterday because of one comment,” Gio said.
“These are not the generational talents...the generational talent that is in this draft is the guy that is playing at a high level at two positions, and that is Travis Hunter. That right there is your generational talent. If you have the No. 1 pick and you want a generational talent, you’re not passing on Travis Hunter.”
Hunter, a two-way star and Heisman Trophy winner, is seen by many as the best pure talent available in the draft this year, so if the Titans go with the Colorado product, the Browns may take Ward, which would leave Sanders there for the taking for Big Blue, a team starved to draft and develop its own QB.
“That tells me that the Giants are absolutely getting Shedeur Sanders,” Gio said.
“As it stands right now, if Chad Brinker is telling the truth, it feels like we got Travis Hunter, Cam Ward, and Shedeur Sanders, if the Giants are taking a quarterback, which I think they will be pressured to do so.”
