The Giants’ expected cuts have begun, with veteran tight end Kyle Rudolph announcing on social media that he has been released by Big Blue.
Wednesday’s move to cut the 32-year-old was an expected one, as it helps the Giants save $5 million in cap space, while eating $2.4 million in dead money.
Rudolph appeared in 16 games for New York, but logged just 257 receiving yards, his lowest mark since 2014, and caught just one touchdown. He had signed a four-year, $36 million deal last March.
“Thanks to everyone in the building who took in and helped this old guy who needed to relearn everything about a new organization,” Rudolph wrote on Twitter. “Finally my teammates, in my 11 years in this league I'm not sure I've been around a closer group of guys!”
The two-time Pro Bowler indicated that he hopes to continue his career elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Giants still have work to do, as they are still roughly $7 million over the salary cap.
