Why McMonigle would prefer to see Giants trade up to draft quarterback

As the Giants turn their attention to the offseason and the NFL Draft, Joe Schoen and company will have a critical decision to make with the No. 3 pick, as it will help shape the franchise’s future.

Chris McMonigle has long maintained that Big Blue needs to take a quarterback with its top pick, and if New York winds up trading up to make sure it lands one of the top quarterback prospects, then C-Mac would feel even better about that QB potentially becoming the one the franchise has been starving for since Eli Manning.

“I’d rather have the Giants trade up and take him with the No. 1 pick,” C-Mac said. “Obviously if they can get their guy at 3 it’s better for the franchise not giving up the assets…but at least it answers the question for me that they love the quarterback.

“I don’t believe they would swing that deal to go get any quarterback because they need one. It would make me feel a hell of a lot better that they believe he is the guy.”

As of now, the Titans and Browns can wind up taking Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders and leave the Giants without one of the top quarterbacks. If Big Blue were to sacrifice some other assets to make sure they get one of those two rookies, C-Mac wouldn’t be upset about it at all. In fact, he would feel encouraged.

“They’re guaranteed to get who they want if they’re picking No. 1,” C-Mac said. “If they fail and they’re out, you know what the Giants should do next year? Draft another quarterback. Keep drafting one until you find one.”
