Morash: Giants stink, but firing Brian Daboll shouldn't be the play

“The 2024 New York Giants: We Didn’t Quit!”

Unfortunately, Big Blue also isn’t doing much winning, but that was the best Shaun Morash could do as he opened his Black Friday show filling in for BT & Sal discussing another loss, this one to Dallas on Thanksgiving, and the state of the team.

“What a low bar it is, but it’s a bar that’s been set anyway,” Shaun continued. “Five more games, five more brutal games left for these Giants to end this season, and officially end the Daniel Jones era. They fell yesterday to Dallas, and for Brownie points, they weren’t completely embarrassed in terms of efforts, but they were just embarrassed in terms of ability…they suck!”

At 2-10, that’s one of the milder words to describe them, it seems.

“They are a flawed team for many reasons, mainly the foundation of this team that was failed in Joe Schoen’s first two draft classes – and the best parts of that foundation continue to get derailed by injury, Dexter Lawrence now yesterday,” Shaun said. “And, the most important part of any decent football team quite literally doesn’t exist: the quarterback situation is awful! It didn’t exist preseason and it certainly doesn’t now – and for all those wondering how Brian Daboll could go to Tommy DeVito over Drew Lock…wrong, he does stink slightly more than DeVito!”

But all that said, Shaun thinks if you’re still out for Brian Daboll’s head, you should check yours.

“Heading into yesterday, the sharks were circling after the effort against the Bucs, which was putrid and unacceptable coming off the bye, and pitchforks were out for Brian Daboll,” Shaun said. “But after watching that game yesterday, how could you watch that and look at yourself in the mirror if you’re still anti-Daboll as the head coach? If you were pounding the table saying he lost the team, did that happen yesterday? On a short week, it would have been easy for this team to continue to quit the way they did against the Bucs, and even after going down 27-10, but they didn’t. Is that a low bar? Hell yes, but one that still computes to proof that this locker room still believes in the head coach.”

The trick now is to keep the locker room together and keep fighting over the final five weeks, but no matter what, what is about to happen with this organization is ‘something we have not seen happen for a very long time with this organization.’

“They picked second overall when they took Saquon Barkley, and in 2001, they picked fourth when they made the Eli Manning trade – but at 2-10, this team legitimately is in great standing to get the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft,” Shaun said. “Teams all around them pounding the table for the top pick are going to start playing each other, meaning someone is going to have to win those games. This conversation fractures the fan base, but do we comprehend how important this offseason is? Because this team is not a quarterback away, but they are a quarterback plus an offseason like this past offseason away from having a functional foundation.”
