Sterling Shepard FaceTimed former teammate Odell Beckham Jr. from the Giants locker room on Friday, less than 24 hours after Beckham met with Brian Daboll and the organization to kick off his free agent tour.
The two wide receivers took some time to imagine what it would be like for Beckham to return to New York, where the Giants are currently fighting to return to the playoffs for the first time since Beckham was still with Big Blue.
“It would mean a lot man,” Shepard said. “I told him, I was like ‘It would be a special thing if you come back here. The city would definitely be happy about that. It would be like old times, man.’”
As for Beckham’s response?
“He was like, ‘You dang right about that,’” Shepard said.
Shepard wouldn’t be able to line up alongside Beckham if he returned, as he is rehabbing from a torn ACL that he suffered in October, but the Giants would still provide a sense of familiarity for Beckham, though other competing teams like the Cowboys and Bills offer an inclusion into a dynamic offense.
