Aaron Rodgers made it clear that he took great exception to Sean Payton’s scathing comments about Nathaniel Hackett.

In an interview with Peter Schrager on NFL+, Rodgers ripped the Broncos head coach for calling out his offensive coordinator, including the headline comment that Hackett’s performance in Denver last year may have been the worst coaching job in NFL history.

“I love Nathaniel Hackett, and those comments were very surprising, for a coach to do that to another coach,” Rodgers told Schrager. “My love for Hackett goes dep. We had some great years together in Green Bay…he’s an incredible family man, and incredible dad, and on the field he’s arguable my favorite coach I’ve ever had in the NFL.”

Rodgers and Hackett enjoyed plenty of success together in Green Bay, and Hackett’s hiring to the Jets unquestionably played a role in bringing Rodgers to New York. Now, the two will look to exact some revenge on Payton and his Broncos in Week 4 when the Jets travel to Denver.

“It made me feel bad that someone who’s accomplished a lot in the league is that insecure that they have to take down another man to set themselves up for some sort of easy fall if it doesn’t go well for that team this year,” Rodgers said. “I thought it was way out of line, inappropriate, and I think he needs to keep my coach’s name out of his mouth.”
