Mekhi Becton stirred up some Jets controversy by tweeting out ‘I. Am. A. Left. Tackle!’ before quickly deleting the post.

Many believed it was the oft-injured offensive lineman complaining that Becton had been told he may play a different position this upcoming season, as the Jets have done numerous line shuffling since the start of last year due to injuries, new additions, etc.

Boomer didn’t want to hear any complaining from Becton, who he says should be on his best behavior and focusing on doing what he hasn’t been able to do since his rookie season: stay healthy.

“This fiasco of a player here with the Jets has been basically his own fault,” Boomer said. “He almost ate himself out of the league. I appreciate that it dawned on him that his body will basically determine how much money he makes if he takes care of himself, so at least he seems to be growing up and doing that this year.

“To put this out there…is crap. You haven’t earned one thing since you’ve been here. You were a good rookie, and then you almost basically ate yourself out of the league. I’m sorry.”

Becton has posted updates of himself this offseason, and has lost significant weight after Jets coaches challenged him to take better care of himself as he dealt with injuries that have stalled his career. Now, for head coach Robert Saleh, Boomer said it almost isn’t worth it for Saleh to deal with Becton’s drama, as Saleh has bigger things to worry about.

“I would not deal with this kid with kid gloves,” Boomer said. “His job is on the line here.”
