Gio wasn’t hiding his lack of confidence in Zach Wilson during Wednesday’s show, so Boomer wanted to present the other side of the coin, and the possibility that the former second overall pick could find his potential in the NFL.
“Maybe the light comes on,” Boomer said. “That’s what you’re hoping for. The light went on for Geno Smith last year. It took 10 years, but the light went on.
“You just never know when a player like this is going to be able to figure it out.”
Smith, a former Jet, found his way with the Seahawks to earn a big contract as Russell Wilson’s successor, earning a Pro Bowl selection and the Comeback Player of the Year award in 2022. Boomer isn’t saying that Wilson will put up a season like Smith did last year, but he isn’t ruling out that Wilson can’t show clear signs of improvement in year three.
“Everybody has just gotta calm down,” Boomer said. “They gotta get through this initial phase, and play the Cowboys. Nothing can happen this quickly.”
