Could the Jets turn to their past in their quest to fill their quarterback void?

While speculation has been swirling for weeks about the Jets striking a trade for Packers star Aaron Rodgers, the team is exploring a wide array of signal-callers, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Among the possibilities being considered by the Jets, Breer reports, is re-signing former second-round draft pick Geno Smith, a free agent who, after bouncing around for a few years, has found new life in Seattle after taking over for Russell Wilson.

Smith, 32, completed nearly 70% of his passes and threw for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his breakout season with the Seahawks. Both Smith and Seahawks brass have expressed interest in keeping him in Seattle, but as always the devil is in the details.

Meanwhile, Rodgers remains the Jets' "first choice," per Breer, but they also seem to be kicking the tires on everyone from free agents Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr, who they recently met with in person, as well as Ryan Tannehill of the Titans.

Giants free agent Daniel Jones is another possibility, according to Breer.

It would be something of an upset if the Giants were to allow Jones to leave, but he recently hired a new agent and is thought to be seeking a huge contract coming off a career year.

As for when to expect the Jets to make their move for a quarterback, Breer adds that they are taking their time and "methodically surveying" the field.
