BT & Sal: 'Jets screwed this up more than Zach Wilson did'

The Zach Wilson era is over in Florham Park, as the Jets traded the failed No. 2 overall pick to the Broncos for a pick swap that brought back a sixth rounder in return.

Reacting to the news on Tuesday, BT and Sal agreed that while Wilson disappointed during his tenure with Gang Green, the organization failed him more than he failed them.

“I think the Jets screwed this up more than Zach Wilson…he never had a chance,” Sal said. “I would have liked to have seen what he could have done if he had a real chance…I’m not saying he was great, because he certainly wasn’t, but I think the Jets butchered that from day one.”

Now, Wilson heads to Denver, and Sal says the fact that Sean Payton wanted to take a chance on the former hyped prospect must mean that some around the league believe there is an untapped potential in Wilson that the Jets were never able to unlock.

“Isn’t it telling that one of the great offensive minds, certainly currently…he is the one who said ‘I’ll take a flier on him?’” Sal said.

BT agrees, and believes that the Wilson era was doomed to be a failure once his teammates donned Mike White t-shirts to celebrate Wilson’s backup taking control of the offense two seasons ago. There was obviously much more that contributed to Wilson’s exit, but BT maintains that the Jets could have done a much better job with their once hopeful franchise pillar.

“It just was never gonna work here for a multitude of reasons,” BT said. “It sucks.”
