C-Mac won’t fully defend the Jets coaching staff, but he also doesn’t understand how fans could assume they need to be replaced given the dreadful quarterback play they have been forced to use this season.
In Robert Saleh, C-Mac sees a head coach who certainly deserves blame for how the season has spiraled, but he has also shown the willingness to make a change at quarterback, and the front office didn’t seem to let him for weeks when the season was first starting to get out of hand.
“How can you tell me he’s a bad coach with what he’s been forced to play?” C-Mac said. “Obviously he goes to Siemian when he thinks they need a spark. Why was he unable to do that with Zach Wilson? The coach clearly doesn’t mind going to a new quarterback for a change. Why not with Zach Wilson? Because he’s forced to play this kid, and he has no other options than Tim Boyle and Siemian.”
Saleh told reporters to watch the All-22 to get an idea of why he isn’t blaming Nathaniel Hackett’s play calling for the offense’s ineptitude, and C-Mac had to agree. Players are getting open, but the dreadful quarterback play isn’t getting them the ball.
“He’s been given nothing at the quarterback position. You want to tell me Hackett is the worst offensive coordinator in football? How do you know that?” C-Mac said.
“What good could possibly happen with this quarterback play? It’s that bad.”
