C-Mac: Jets would be better off if Woody Johnson sold team

Joe Douglas is gone, and according to a bombshell report by The Athletic, the GM had been on his way out for a while, having been stepped on by ownership several times leading up to his dismissal.

Per the report, Woody Johnson not only fired head coach Robert Saleh without consulting Douglas or any team personnel, but also pushed for acquisitions like Tyron Smith and Mike Williams while declining the option of retaining Bryce Huff, all moves that wound up backfiring.

In light of these new revelations, Chris McMonigle made it clear that he believes the Jets will never change for the better until there is a change at the very top.

“The reality is, the Jets need Woody Johnson to sell the team,” C-Mac said. “If you understand all the things Woody has done since coming back to this team...it has been an out-and-out debacle.

“He believes he is the reason why the team is talented, and he is the person who put this team together...I think it’s fair to speculate now every move that was made. Did [Douglas] hire Robert Saleh? Did he draft Zach Wilson?”

Those questions are fair to ask after reading the report by The Athletic, and when looking back on Johnson’s track record before leaving the team to be an ambassador for the Trump administration. C-Mac says it is clear that Johnson returned from that role with a focus on being in charge of the team, and the organization has suffered as a result.

“He came back with an absolute plan to take over,” C-Mac said. “Honestly, I don’t know if I can put anything at the feet of Joe Douglas.”
