Evan sounded off on “napping” Joe Douglas at this time last week, when NFL free agency began and the Jets made little to no moves while other teams went crazy with signings and additions.
One week later, and one Tyron Smith signing later, and Evan is singing a much different tune.
“It was that damn awesome,” Evan said of the weekend that was as a Jets fan. “Aaron Rodgers is fully committed to quarterbacking the New York Jets…my quarterback is focused on the prize. Number two, as free agency began, I was a little upset…I was not going Joe Douglas time. On Friday night, Joe Douglas not only signed the best left tackle in the market in Tyron Smith, he got him in a masterclass of negotiations when you look at how much of that contract is guaranteed.”
Smith joins a line that also now includes the return of Morgan Moses, and a hopefully healthy Alijah Vera-Tucker. The team’s most glaring concern entering last season now seems fully reinforced, and with Rodgers confirming that he is not joining Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign, Evan is back on the Jets hype train in 2024.
“Joe Douglas has put together one of the premier offensive lines in the NFL…who the hell is stopping us now?” Evan said. “Aaron Rodgers is committed, the offensive line is fixed.
“There’s a reason why my beard is white and green today. I am as giddy as a Jet fan as I’ve been in a while. Hallelujah!”
