Evan has stood by the hiring of Aaron Glenn since he was rumoured to be the Jets’ top head coaching target, and has maintained his belief that he can change the tide of defensive-minded head coaches not working out in New York.
After hearing Glenn’s first comments as the new Jets head coach at Monday’s introductory press conference, Evan doubled - maybe even tripled- down on his conviction that Glenn is the guy to lead the Jets out of their tortured history.
“Aaron Glenn...is the answer,” Evan said. “Aaron Glenn will make you as a Jet fan, no matter how bitter or disillusioned you are, run through a wall.
“I get it, it’s easy to win a press conference. Joe Judge won a press conference. But Aaron Glenn gave Jets fans hope.”
Evan compared Glenn’s presser to Robert Saleh’s “All gas, no brake” introductory press conference, compared to Glenn declaring “We’re the freaking New York Jets, and we’re built for this s--t.”
“That’s my coach! That’s our coach!” Evan said. “That’s the slogan you’re gonna put on a t-shirt!”
Tiki agrees with Evan’s sentiment, and says Jets fans should feel refreshed after listening to Monday’s presser, even if it comes with the knowledge that introductory comments don’t always lead to success on the field.
“He gave Jets fans a sense of control,” Tiki said. “‘I know what I’m doing, I know exactly what I need to tell my players to do, and they’re going to buy in. Period.’”
