NFL fans were treated to the full Jameis Winston experience, as the veteran quarterback lit it up for 460 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two pick-sixes in an eventual lost to the Broncos on Monday Night Football.
One pick six came with less than two minutes to go and Cleveland down by just six and driving near midfield, ending the Browns’ hopes of an upset. After the game, Winston went viral on social media when he told reporters that he was “praying for the Lord to deliver me from pick sixes.”
The entire experience was something Evan wants to see in New York with the Jets this season.
“Jameis Winston as a bridge quarterback is perfect,” Evan said after watching Monday’s game. “He’s fascinating, and he’s fun. One thing I’m sick of as a football fan is being bored to tears on Sunday. Jameis Winston would entertain me as a Jet fan.
“The Jets are gonna have a bridge quarterback next year...I would like to publicly endorse Jameis Winston. Even with the 400 yards he’ll throw for and the pick sixes and the crazy quotes after the game, I’m for that. Isn’t that better than the garbage we’ve watched over the last decade?”
Evan doesn’t see the Jets drafting high enough to start a rookie next season, and he believes Aaron Rodgers is gone after this season. So, there will likely need to be a bridge at the position in 2025, and Evan wants to see it be Winston.
“They’re not gonna go for another Aaron Rodgers-type Band-Aid, so get Kirk Cousins’ name out of your mouth,” Evan said. “I don’t think the Jets are gonna lose enough to be picking in the top two or three. I think they’re gonna accidentally win a game or two, plus they already have an extra win over a team like the Giants or Jacksonville. So I don’t even think they’re drafting their quarterback. I think whoever is going to be running the next administration will take their time on finding their next quarterback.”
