Evan calls for Jets to bring back Mike White after Dolphins release

Mike White was released by the Dolphins on Monday, as Miami goes with Skylar Thompson as their backup to Tua Tagovailoa.

It is a steep decline for White, who is not far removed from taking Jets fans by storm as Zach Wilson’s replacement, to the point where Gang Green teammates had custom shirts made to rally around their new quarterback.

Now, with White out there for the taking, Evan wants New York to try and recapture that brief flash of magic.

“I enjoyed the Mike White era, and I believed in Mike White,” Evan said. “I believed that, given the opportunity and maybe a little more luck related to health, Mike White could have been the answer.

“Even going back to last year, I thought it was a mistake for the Jets to keep Zach Wilson for another year and let Mike White go…I’d bring him in if I were the Jets.”

Pointing to injury concerns related to both of the Jets’ top quarterbacks on the depth chart, Evan says bringing White back would be valuable insurance, and present an emergency option with some upside.

“The Jets right now do not have a third-string quarterback,” Evan said. “I have expressed this slight worry that Aaron Rodgers is 40 and coming off an Achilles. There is no guarantee that he’s gonna play 17 games….Tyrod Taylor is someone who has a history of not being healthy.”
