Gio: Jets seem to be doing 'exact opposite' of what they should when it comes to coaching staff
According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, likely Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has listed Raiders interim offensive coordinator Scott Turner and Rams tight ends coach Nick Caley as potential OC hires if he indeed takes a head coaching gig.
Per Costello, the Lions defensive coordinator has also floated Steve Wilks, most recently with the 49ers.
For Gio, those names are the exact kind that generate little inspiration in the Jets and this new potential regime.
“I wanted them to get a proven head coach who had success in the past...and get an experienced offensive coordinator, and the Jets are doing exactly the opposite,” Gio said.
“He’s done a lot of stuff, Scott Turner. One thing he has never done is be an offensive coordinator from the start of a season.”
Boomer has mainly been in lockstep with Gio when it comes to the Jets coaching search, that he would like to see experienced names take over, so this development isn’t ideal, though if the Jets feel that Glenn is their guy, then the team has to trust in his vision and evaluation of coaches that will be on his staff.
“We’re going down the same road once again that they have continued to go down, and they haven’t had an ounce of success,” Boomer said.
“If Aaron feels like when they played the Rams, that was one of the most difficult teams to play against defensively...then maybe you would interview a guy.”
