Quinnen Williams stirred up some Jets drama on Monday after removing the team’s name from his Twitter bio, as contract negotiations are clearly not moving along like the star defensive tackle would like it to.
After the drama on social media last season with Gang Green, mainly players liking and eventually unliking tweets that were critical of Zach Wilson, Gio says the team just needs to stay off social media.
“Nobody has talked to them about how to handle social media until after the fact, because you see guys deleting tweets…this has to be, ‘Stop now. No more of this,’” Gio said.
“If you’ve got a contract negotiation going on, or you have an issue with what’s going on in the locker room, pick up the phone, text your teammates, text you agent, bitch all you want. You put it into a public forum, it makes you guys look like a mess, and it makes you look like you don’t care about winning.”
Gio says the Jets are among the league leaders in worst Twitter management, and he puts the bulk of the blame on a lack of accountability from Robert Saleh.
“I feel like the Jets lead the league in Twitter dumbness,” Gio said. “I really do. I really think that comes from how comfortable the coach makes them. If he were ripping into them or punishing them or yelling at them for doing this stuff, they wouldn’t do it as much. But they obviously feel comfortable putting out all this dog crap on Twitter. I just don’t understand it.”
